Seeking Justice for Survivors/ Dignity & ICF Ukrainian Foundation for Publiс Health
“Strengthen the capacity of civil society to enhance access to Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) and justice and redress for survivors of torture, war crimes and human rights violations in Ukraine” / Dignity and UFPH
International Organization HealthRight International (Right to Health) in Ukraine and the charitable foundation established by it, the Ukrainian Foundation for Public Health, have been working since 2005 to ensure access to vital medical and social services for vulnerable populations. These groups include women and girls affected by gender-based and domestic violence, people living with HIV, at-risk adolescents, internally displaced persons, youth in conflict with the law, individuals subjected to torture, sexual violence, or exploitation. Particular attention is given to creating a safe environment for receiving assistance, strengthening resilience, and protecting human rights
BACKGROUND
Russia's full-scale invasion of Ukraine in 2022 led to numerous war crimes, including torture and other egregious human rights violations. The war has severely impacted the population’s mental health, causing high levels of anxiety and stress while significantly increasing the risks of gender-based, domestic, and sexual violence, CRSV, and torture. Systematic human rights violations have created a severe humanitarian crisis. Given the scale of the crisis, there is an urgent need in Ukraine to develop and expand psychosocial and medical support programs for individuals affected by war-related violence.
PROJECT SUMMARY
The project aims to improve access to timely and quality psychosocial and medical assistance for survivors of torture and other severe human rights violations (hereafter referred to as survivors) by connecting them with a team of specialists providing targeted support.
