Unity Marathon in New York

🏃‍♀️ 21 kilometers through New York and thousands of stories of resilience.
🗽Today, New York ran the Unity Marathon. Streets usually filled with cars turned into a massive racecourse for people from all over the world for a few hours. One of the largest half-marathons in the U.S. — the New York City Half Marathon — took place here.
🗺️Over 30,000 participants ran 21.1 kilometers through Brooklyn and Manhattan to the finish line in Central Park. The route passed through the city’s iconic landmarks — including the Brooklyn Bridge and Times Square, which is completely closed off for runners on this day. It’s one of the few events of the year when the legendary square belongs not to cars, but to people.
🙏But what’s most impressive isn’t even the number of participants. It’s the number of people who come out to cheer them on. Thousands of spectators line the entire course. People come with signs, photos, encouraging messages, and sometimes even bells or music — all to support the runners. Some hold signs that say, “You’ve got this!”; others, “Run for Mom”; and some simply hold a sign with the name of a loved one.
And it seems that there are even more people here to support the marathon than there are runners. Among those who completed the course today were representatives of HealthRight International — a team from New York and Kyiv, HealthRight International in Ukraine.
🏅For some, it was a sporting challenge.
For others, a personal victory.
For some, it was a way to support important social initiatives.
After all, many participants run for more than just the finish line. They run for their health, for charity, and to support others.
Did you know:
🏃🏽‍♀️This is one of the largest half marathons in the U.S.
🛣️the distance is 21.1 km, and professional athletes complete it in about 1 hour
🗺️every year, runners from dozens of countries around the world participate
💰for many, it’s an opportunity to raise funds for charitable projects
On this day, Times Square transforms from a major thoroughfare into a corridor of support for runners. Events like this remind us of a simple truth:
people may be very different, but when they run side by side, they are united by a common goal.
And even 21 kilometers seems shorter when you know what you’re running for 💛
