Protect Her Together: Strengthening Communities, Saving Lives

ICF "Ukrainian Foundation for Public Health" and the International organization Corus International thanks to the financial support of the Humanitarian Fund for Ukraine are jointly implementing Project "Protect Her Together: Strengthening Communities, Saving Lives"aimed at supporting women and girls affected by the war in Kharkiv, Chernihiv and Sumy regions. This project aims to facilitate access to psychosocial assistance for women in thefrontline regions after the start of russia's full-scale invasion in 2022 

Project objective: To enable women and girls in war-affected communities, o receive quality support and access to safe spaces to receive psychological, social, and targeted assistanceand develop skills to overcome crisis situations. It will help and teach our clients how to overcome crisis situations. 

As of March 1, 2026 the project has achieved the following. :

  • Ensuredthe operation of teams of specialistsproviding services in Women and Girlsах in Women and Girls Safe Spaces (WGSS) (Women and Girls Safe Spaces – WGSS)  including 2 social workers,a psychologista psychogymnastics of trainera language specialist (English and Ukrainian), and a driver.;
  • Ensured weekly awareness-raising activities on the prevention of and response gender-based violence and other forms of gender discrimination.. A total of 1137 eventswere conducted... 
  • Engaged new beneficiaries in recovery and empowerment activities.. A total of  4459 beneficiarieswere reached, receiving 15 212 services in Safe Spaces. 
  • • Ensured access to services for women and girls living in remote settlements.  he mobile WGSS office made outreach visits to the starosta districts of . Koryukivka, Mena, ,Lozova and Izium communities.. . 
  • Collected 2,080 feedback responses from beneficiaries.. 

In the Safe Space, clients can receive:

  • Professional support from a psychologist and social workers; 
  • quality access to information and resources; 
  • therapeutic support groups; 
  • awareness of violence and assistance to survivors; 
  • Support for women and girls in addressing their challenges with various institutions; 
  • Knowledge in digital, financial, and historical-cultural literacy; 
  • Weekly consultations with specialized doctors (gynecologist, therapist, endocrinologist, etc.); 
  • Participation in psychogymnastics sessions and Ukrainian/English language classes; 
  • Dignity kits.

ICF "Ukrainian Foundation for Public Health" coordinates all project activities and
еnsures interaction with local communities of Kharkiv and Chernihiv regions and partners to
achieve common goals.

Results of the activities  

As of March 1, 2026, a total of 4,459 individuals has sought support from the specialists of the Safe Spaces.   

1137 activities were conducted, covering psychosocial support, educational sessions, recreational activities, and mobile outreach work with beneficiaries in community settlements. 

 The main activities included:  

281 psychogymnastics sessions 

19 group film screenings 

307 art therapy sessions  

7 financial literacy lessons  

41 historical and cultural literacy sessions 

144 Ukrainian language lessons  

148 English language lessons  

26 digital literacy lessons  

69 thematic sessions within the “School of Safety” format  

95 mobile Safe Space outreach visits
