The Training and Resource Center of HealthRight International’s Representative Office in Ukraine and the Ukrainian Foundation for Public Health offers training and workshops for social workers, specialists and managers of social services for families, children and youth, state and private institutions, and NGOs.

TRAININGS

DSCN09091. Training of service providers on prevention of violence against women

Objectives:

  • Improve knowledge and skills of social workers on collaboration procedures between agents of social work and case management in cases of domestic violence or threat of domestic violence.
  • • Develop communication skills with persons engaged in the case of violence.
  • • Teach service providers to assess needs of service recipients and to plan actions for overcoming and preventing situations of violence.

2. Behavior change program for men who commit violence or are at risk

Objectives:

• Improve the knowledge and skills of social workers, psychologists on behavior change work with men who commit violence or are at risk

• Improve skills in behavior change intervention with persons who commit violence, forming new socially acceptable norms and values, non-violent behavior and humanistic values.

Benefits:

The program covers to the full extent individual and group work methods, in particular:

a) Screening of persons who commit violence, identifying the causes of aggressive behavior and the needs of participants of behavior change intervention.

b) Motivational counseling to determine the motivation level to participate in group work within the behavior change program, as well as to form or increase motivation to change violent, aggressive behavior

c) Individual behavior change sessions

d) Group behavior change sessions.

3. Creating halfway houses for pregnant women and mothers with young children in difficult living circumstances

Objectives:

• Analyze the halfway house model as a form of rehabilitation

• Consider the basic principles of the halfway house and its place in the system of social services

• Consider organizational and legal aspects of halfway houses

• Consider approaches of identification of clients and their engagement in services

• Consider the stages of social support of clients in terms of social circumstances and apartments available at the end of their stay.

Benefits: The training program is based on the practical experience of the halfway house for pregnant women and mothers with young children opened in Kiev by HealthRight International.

Training will be useful for: specialists and managers of public and private organizations that are planning to create or have created halfway houses and working with girls and women in difficult living circumstances, pregnant girls and mothers with young children.

4. Multidisciplinary case management in social work

Objectives:

• Learn about the stages of the multidisciplinary case management, which is based on the collaboration between different service providers

• Analyze external resources which can be engaged to provide comprehensive assistance to the client

• Explore existing approaches to monitoring of effectiveness of provided services.

Benefits: Program is based on practical experience of the service center for girls and women in difficult circumstances established in Kyiv by HealthRight International.

Training will be useful for: service providers and managers of state and non-governmental organizations and private organizations working with women and young people who find themselves in difficult circumstances.

5. Education and HIV Prevention among At-Risk Adolescents and Youth in Outreach Settings

Objectives:

• Analyze specifics of service delivery in terms of street prevention work;

• Define approaches to engage volunteers in the street prevention activities;

• Consider ethics principles of working with at-risk adolescents and youth;

• Develop a safety plan for outreach-workers;

• Consider responsibilities of members of a multidisciplinary team, and procedures for referrals and assisting clients to service agencies.

Benefits: the training will focus on specifics of work with street-involved girls and women.

Training will be useful for: service providers and managers of state and non-governmental organizations working with at-risk adolescents and youth.

6. The STEPS Education and Prevention Training Program for Youth who Have Practiced Risky Behaviors

Objective: To inform participants about the STEPS HIV prevention and education training for adolescents and youth.

Benefits: The STEPS program aims to improve knowledge of adolescents on various aspects of a healthy lifestyle and change their risky behavior for more responsible one. The STEPS program is approved for implementation in secondary schools by the Commission on Health of the Scientific and Methodological Council on Education of the Ministry of Education, Science, Youth and Sports of Ukraine. The program summarizes the experience of the international organization “HealthRight International” in Ukraine and Russia, as well as partner organizations of these countries in the implementation of projects and programs for HIV prevention among street-involved youth, adolescents and youth from boarding and vocational schools.
